Industrial Water Softener Process

Pure Aqua’s water softeners treat the water by removing hardness using resin. The resin replaces the hardness in the water with salt which is regenerated periodically. The softened water can then pass through an RO system to remove the salt without the risk of scaling. Softeners can be used in a variety of services including: industrial, municipal, and institutional applications.

A softener is sized on the basis of two different parameters:

  • Exchange capacity – which is the quantity of water delivered between regenerations, and it depends upon the amount of ion exchange resin in the softener and quantity of salt used for resin regeneration.

  • Maximum flow rate – which is the maximum quantity of water required at any peak usage period, and is an important datum in case of non-continuous water delivery and is measured in gallons per minute (GPM)

  • The Industrial Steel Tank Automatic Water Softener (SF-100S Series) softeners are designed as fully automatic units either with timer or meter control. The timer control initiates softener regeneration at any predetermined time – on any or every day. The metered models start regeneration based on the total gallons used.

  • The steel mineral tank is engineered for a 100 psi working pressure and is tested to 150 psi. It is equipped with a manhole in the upper dome.

  • The interior of the tank is coated with epoxy for protection against rust and corrosion. The exterior has a rust inhibiting primer coat.

  • A premium grade sulfanated nonphenolic polystyrene type resin is contained in the mineral tank. The resin will deliver 30,000 grains per cubic foot when brined at a rate of 15 lbs. per cubic foot.

  • The brine tank is a combination of high density polystyrene brine measuring tank and a brine valve, including an air eliminator valve and a safety brine refill shut off to prevent tank overflow.

  • The automatic regeneration controller features a choice of 7 or 12 day calendar wheels. Time of regeneration and length of time for each regeneration cycle are fully adjustable.

  • The under drain utilizes either a hub & lateral or a header & lateral system to evenly distribute water and prevent resin loss, and to insure minimal pressure drop at peak flow rates.

Commercial Water Softening Systems SF-150S with Fleck Valve

Pure Aqua offers first-rate commercial water softeners and water softener systems that can provide clean water for your commercial applications. We have several satisfied clients all around the world that use our water softener solutions.

Pure Aqua’s commercial water softeners eliminates hard minerals from the product water using an effective resin. The resin absorbs calcium and magnesium ions (hard minerals) in the water and exchanges it with sodium ions (salt), which is regenerated in a periodic basis. As the hard ions begin greatly outnumbering the sodium ions, the system replenishes the resin with more salt by utilizing a brine solution. This process effectively cleanses off the hardness and adds more salt throughout the surface of the resin. The softened water is then sent to reverse osmosis systems for further treatment in order to completely eradicate the salt without the risk of scaling. 

The SF-150S Series water softener is built with the necessary features to target and remove high concentrations of dissolved solids that produce hardness in water, especially magnesium and calcium. How a commercial water softener system works?

Commercial water softener systems work by utilizing the concept of ion exchange, which is seen through the pouring of hard water into a treatment tank. The water softener tank contains ion exchange resin beads that are covered with sodium ions. The sodium ions are exchanged with the calcium and magnesium ions (which produce water hardness) during the process, and results in softened water.  In order to ensure continued effectiveness of the water softener system, there needs to be an incorporation of a brine tank. A brine tank works by utilizing a brine solution (salt must be added to brine tank manually) to recharge the resin within the water softener tank with sodium ions, once they have been fully replaced with calcium and magnesium ions. This process will allow for consistent hard water reduction through the regeneration of the ion exchange resin beads with sodium ions, and replacement of the calcium and magnesium ions.

The Pure Aqua SF-300C commercial water softener system offers a robust and efficient solution for reducing mineral scale, soap usage, and energy consumption in the plumbing and other water-using equipment for commercial, light industrial, and institutional facilities. The corrosion-resistant fiberglass-reinforced polyethylene tank design and reliable top mounted valve will provide many years of reliable service.

All commercial softeners include an appropriately sized mineral tank, a commercial brine tank with brine tubing and connectors, a distributor tube, an appropriate amount of gravel and cross-link 8% resin, and a control valve of your choice. In addition, all systems are new with factory warranties.

All softeners require periodic regeneration to reactivate the resin and replenish its salt concentration. This is accomplished by doing a brine draw from the brine tank and running it through the tank for a set period of time. During this phase, the resin will release its hardness and exchange it with salt from the brine tank. Because regeneration generally occurs at higher flow rates than those seen in service, often a proper regeneration flow rate is not possible because the systems are designed for required service flow rates.
